Christa
Zwischen Trümmern und Träumen

Christa - Zwischen Trümmern und Träumen (Between Ruins and Dreams) is a point-and-click adventure created by Johanna Lorenz, Aliyah-Cana Tüysüz, Celina Schwarte, and me.
We wanted to capture what it was like to grow up during World War II. To make the story as authentic as possible, we interviewed our grandparents, who experienced their childhood in Germany during the war, and built the narrative around their memories.
The story follows Christa, an eleven-year-old girl whose father has to join the army. She and her younger as well as older brother must cope with his absence while continuing their daily lives.
Going to school, enduring constant air raid alarms, and struggling with the uncertainty of what is truly happening. Christa herself doesn’t fully understand the situation, and her little brother even less so. Still, she has to stay strong for him.
The game’s childlike art style contrasts with the dark themes it explores. All adults are depicted in black and white, symbolizing how the war has drained the color from their lives, while the children remain colorful—full of hope.
